A Google Tablet? Google Expanding into the Hardware Market
There’s no
question the electronic hardware industry is booming. Everything from laptops
to iPods sells incredibly well, even in today’s difficult market. It’s little
wonder why Google wants to expand its company into the hardware industry. Since
Google is a name that’s already known and trusted, their products are likely
ones consumers and businesses will be anxious to buy. Whether you’re a pool guard manufacturing company or
a furniture store, here’s what to expect from Google’s new releases.
Nexus 7
The Nexus 7 is a
portable tablet that Google hopes will compete with the Kindle Fire and Apple
iPad. The device will have a 7 inch screen, 1280×800 HD display, 12-core GPU
chip, and a quad-core processor. Powered by Asus, the Nexus 7 will also
support Android apps better than the Kindle Fire and will have a longer battery
life of 9 hours. It’s great for Google Play, music, e-books, and movies. The
only downside is it doesn’t have as many options as bigger companies yet. At
$199 though, it’s definitely something you’ll want to check out.
Nexus Q
Google’s Nexus Q
is a really nifty new device. It’s advertised as the first media player with
the ability to stream social content. The device turns Android, YouTube, and
Google Play into part of your own home entertainment system. Nexus Q is great
if you want to watch YouTube channels on a bigger screen or want to stream
music for a party from the comfort of your couch.
Although it’s a little pricey at $299, home entertainment systems can get much
more expensive than that, and the Q is convenient for tech enthusiasts looking
to integrate their online content.
Galaxy Nexus
The Galaxy Nexus
is Google’s latest Nexus phone. Released by Samsung, you can use the Galaxy
Nexus on AT&T and T-Mobile networks. The phone has a 4.65" 1280 x 720 HD
screen, a 1.2 GHz dual core processor, and 16 GB internal storage. Galaxy Nexus
runs on the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean platform, a lightning fast and
intuitive network. It also fully supports the Google Play network, with
thousands of eBooks, songs, and games available. The phone retails for a pricey
$349, but it is a must have for Google enthusiasts.
Google Glass
Did you ever see
a futuristic movie where the main characters took pictures or browsed
information on their glasses? With Google, glasses like those are no longer the
stuff of science fiction. The Google Glass line is not expected to be released
until 2014, but with the glasses, you’ll be able to access map data, zoom in on
far away objects, and take and share photos. Google says they’ll work with a 3G
or 4G data connection, just like your smartphone. The downside is they’re a
little strange looking and will probably be pricey.
