choose your blog
Tumblr or Blogger?
Registration
Tumblr registration process is quite easy. Tumblr ask new users for an Email address, a password and a blog URL, making it user friendly.
When it comes to Blogger, their signing up process is simple, if you already have an existing Google account. If users have no google account
Blogger registration process will be quite cumbersome.
Templates
Choosing a template and customization is simple on Tumblr, and users can choose a variety of Premium templates as well as free templates from different categories. But many templates lack all the customization features. Users can use their own CSS and HTML skills to redesign their blogs.
Blogger is easy to customize, but it lacks some features like Tumblr does. Blogger comes up with a custom template designer, changing the layout in Blogger is easy, one could drag gadgets and use plenty of other option to look their Blog classy. Working with CSS is not quite impressive with Blogger.
Dashboard
Dashboard
Tumblr’s dashboard interface is pretty impressive compared to Blogger. Users have a selection of various kinds of post to choose from (text, video, photo, links and quotes. It also comes up with the option of “like” and “reblog” above each post. Tumblr has maintained its dashboard to look simple and compact for its users.
Blogger comes with the feature of posting and editing post, it also saves post as draft. One can also manage more than one blog on Blogger, which is a nice feature.
Statistics
Tumblr lacks the feature of internal traffic monitoring option. Few templates come with Google Analytics option. Tumblr users which lack this option, either has to embed Google Analytics’ code on to their template. They can also use widgets like FeedjitLive traffic feed(read morehttp://vizoption.blogspot.com/2011/10/feedjit.html) or Statscounter on to their Tumblr blog as HTML codes.
Blogger comes with an in built statistics which is very useful for bloggers. Bloggers can put Google Analytics ID on their blogs.
Monetizing
Tumblr doesn’t come with the feature of monetization, but provides the option of embedding HTML codes on “info” space displayed on the dashboard.
Monetization is easier when it comes to Blogger as it has the visible option of “monetize” on the dashboard. Bloggers can register for Adsense and Amazon, which is featured under the monetize option. Bloggers can also use other ad services.
Commenting and HTML codes
Tumblr lack the feature of commenting on post, which is a major drawback for Tumblr users. But users can sign up for Disqus, which will allow users to comment on post. But many templates don’t support disqus.
HTML codes to fails to work on Tumblr at times, whereas blogger come with the otion of HTML/java script.
Few widgets for Tumblr users:
