Key Lime Pie - The Release Date is Approaching

The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update is not yet available to all handsets, but that is not Google’s problem – it is the responsibility of the separate manufacturers. So there is nothing that is currently stopping the company from devoting its full attention to the next Android version – Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

Now, as rumours of the system have been circling the web for a while now, everyone placed the announce date at this year’s IO conference which is just about to start. An announcement date, of course, is far from a release, but it is still a step towards it and tech geeks were expecting a new Nexus phone running Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie to hit the shelves in just a few months.

 

Some new information, however, suggests that Google might actually delay the release a bit more. Why? For the exact reason that was cited in the first sentence – hardware manufacturers haven’t even released the previous update for everyone yet. Postponing the next dessert with a few months might be all the time they need to ensure all their users can enjoy Jelly Bean before they turn to working on the Pie.

But yet another rumour has recently surfaced – Android 4.3 is coming, say some experts, not Android 5.0. Now that piece of information can be interpreted in two different ways. On the one hand, it gives some credence to the above about delaying the release to allow manufacturers to distribute 4.2.2 and yet keep the users interested. But then again, it also doesn’t make sense because if Google released yet another Jelly Bean update, they will have to wait even longer to release Key Lime Pie. Which leads us to the other way of interpreting the information: we all jumped the gun by expecting Google to be ready with the new system so soon and they are still far from it.

Another set of rumours that can help us figure out the release date relates to the flagship phones. Most commonly, Nexus are the first phones to feature a new system and the Nexus 4 was released just a few short months ago in November. So seeing the rumoured Nexus 5 this month seems not just unlikely, but almost impossible. It is perhaps more reasonable to assume a release towards the end of this year or in the beginning of 2014.

On the other hand, some experts suggest that Google will not reveal its new system with a new phone, but rather use an updated Nexus 4. But that doesn’t sound right, don’t you think? Using an old phone to show off a brand new system – it just isn’t Google’s style.

“The Release Date is Approaching”, says title, but is it? With all the rumours running around, it’s almost impossible to determine which is true and which is an outright lie. Everything seems to be supported by a plethora of evidence and company leaks. Whatever the release date is, however, we are bound to see a number of key improvements of the interface and usability so that the Android experience gets even better.
